Abstract
Purpose: To analyze the impact of artificial intelligence technology on reducing chart burden and burnout while improving patient care outcomes. Methods: Quality improvement project conducted in a family medicine residency primary care clinic. It involves one resident physician utilizing a pilot program of artificial intelligence- assisted note transcription. Measures will include chart completion time, resident well-being assessment prior to and after the program's initiation, and patient care metrics like EHR quality updates. Results: Data collection is ongoing with this project. Improvements in chart completion time, resident well-being, and EHR patient information accuracy are anticipated. Conclusions: The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence technologies, in both their applications and availability, has far-reaching implications on the development of sustainable patient care delivery, accurate and efficient medico-legal documentation, and quality of work enjoyment, especially at the primary care level. Integrating these technologies early on in medical training has the potential to improve resident patient care quality and reduce burn-out burden among physicians in their early career.
Upon completion of this session, participants should be able to:
- Explore the potential impact of artificial intelligence on work sustainability, reduction in chart burden, and effects on physician well-being in the primary care family medicine setting.
- Elucidate the functionality and application of artificial intelligence in the primary care setting.
- Appreciate the beneficial impact on accuracy and efficiency of charting with the use of artificial intelligence, as well as the challenges of integration.
