Abstract
ACGME educational standards require residents to master an ever-increasing set of skills that are often difficult to teach and assess with consistent curriculum that is thoughtful, educational, and still feasible to implement by busy attending faculty. Family physicians must now possess the ability to lead an integrated primary care team and advocate for a state in which everyone has a fair and just opportunity to attain their highest level of health, while still finding time to contribute to their health system and professional organizations. This poster outlines the curriculum used by our residency to enhance resident skills in leadership, equity, advocacy, and professionalism (LEAP) during a 1-month required cohort rotation completed by senior residents during spring of their third year. Content included live and recorded didactics, group projects, reflections, and self-directed learning. A pretest-posttest design was used to summarize resident data on ratings of rotation utility, practicality, and confidence in implementation for the skill areas taught. Faculty feedback on the feasibility of this approach will also be shared to examine the workload burden of attending faculty in an era of decreased teaching time for many.
Upon completion of this session, participants should be able to:
- Acquire knowledge of a month-long curriculum outline that serves to foster growth in these core areas of senior residents in family medicine.
- Identify opportunities within one’s own program to enhance curricular elements of leadership, equity, advocacy, and professionalism using options presented within this project.
- Learn the key ACGME requirement for areas of the LEAP (leadership, equity, advocacy, and professionalism) curriculum.
