Abstract
ICU patients struggle with overwhelming pain, unprecedented anxiety, agitation, and delirium: all requiring a unique set of resources that often extend beyond medical management. Loved ones provide invaluable comfort for patients and alleviate burden from the care team. Therefore, when patients cannot have visitors, their hospital care may require more heightened attention and resources. This case presents a 59-year-old male who found surprising results with holistic methods of pain control in the ICU while struggling alone, given the maximum dosage of analgesics. I will discuss the various synergistic non-medicinal resources to increase the overall quality of care in ICU patients.
