Abstract
Volunteering for research opens up the possibility of discovering incidental findings, potentially causing unneeded stress or even saving someone’s life. A 27-year-old medical student participated in a fasting gastric ultrasound study and was incidentally found to have a perigastric mass. Amidst clinical clerkship duties, numerous approaching deadlines, and an upcoming shelf exam, this student dealt with the unforeseen stress of stepping into the shoes of the patient. This case will focus on the stress management and ripple effect of a sudden diagnosis on a medical student who knows a lot about medicine, but not quite enough just yet.
