Abstract
Gunshot wounds to the face spark numerous challenges for anesthesiologists given the complexity of the fractures and soft tissue defects, from difficulties maintaining an airway to OG tubes causing deadly CSF leaks. This case presents a 19-year-old male with multiple facial fractures due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head who subsequently endured a life threatening complication due to the unique barriers his injuries placed on his medical care team. I will be discussing the imminent and dangerous complications that can arise with facial gunshot wound patients and propose an algorithm for how to best avoid these in practice.
