Abstract
Our patient is a 55 year old male with past medical history of a kidney transplant who presented to the ED with chest pain. Workup revealed STEMI and echo revealed a contained left ventricular free wall rupture. The patient was taken emergently to the OR for repair. Hemodynamics were carefully monitored during induction. After some discussion between the cardiac surgeons, the decision was made to place the patient on VA ECMO to allow the tissue to heal. In this case study we will discuss complications after MI, review the categories of shock, and discuss anesthetic management of cardiac tamponade.
