Abstract

A 14-month-old with no significant PMHx presented with a positive MRSA blood culture and dilated right proximal coronary artery on echocardiogram, suspicious for Kawasaki disease. Accompanied by their parents, who are of Middle Eastern descent and speak primarily Arabic, communication proved challenging due to the language barrier, evident in the parents’ frustration. However, the presence of a Middle Eastern physician fluent in Arabic greatly facilitated communication, enhancing the parents' comfort and sense of being heard. This case highlights the importance of addressing language barrier challenges in patient management and proposes strategies for overcoming them.
