Abstract
47-year-old male presented to the emergency center for concerns of altered mental status. In the EC, the patient was intubated for a GCS of 5. After intubation, low tidal volumes were noted and a tear in the cuff was identified. The 7.5mm ETT was removed and replaced with a 7.0mm. Report from the EC included difficult anatomy during intubation. To explore this, the ICU team used video laryngoscopy to assess the anatomy, at which time it was noted that the ETT was penetrating the right tonsillar pillar. We will discuss injuries that may occur following video assisted laryngoscopy.
