Abstract

We present a healthy 24-year-old pregnant female at 23 weeks gestation who presented with supraventricular tachycardia and discuss pharmacologic strategies of tachyarrhythmias in a parturient. Upon presentation to triage, her heart rate was greater than 170bpm with normal blood pressure and reassuring fetal heart tones. 12 lead ECG demonstrated SVT versus atypical atrial flutter. Immediate cardiology consultation recommended vagal maneuvers given the patient remained in stable tachyarrhythmia followed by adenosine or beta antagonism depending on fetal heart tones. Prior to treatment, the patient converted to sinus rhythm. Preventative therapy was held unless arrhythmia recurred.
