Abstract

McArdle’s disease is a rare genetic condition that requires certain considerations for the anesthesiologist. These patients may develop perioperative complications that include: cramps, fatigue, kidney injury, rhabdomyolysis, and acute hypoglycemia. In our case a 22-year-old female with a history of McArdle's Disease (GSD-V) with an unknown genetic variant underwent a left hip arthroscopy. She reported a history of exertion related fatigue and myalgias, in addition to several past episodes of rhabdomyolysis. She received a preoperative fascia iliaca nerve block and the case was completed without any complications. In this presentation, we will discuss anesthetic and analgesic considerations for patients with McArdle’s disease.
