Abstract
A 67-year-old female with a hx of myocardial infarction with percutaneous coronary intervention status post-day seven was admitted to the cardiac intensive care unit after her echocardiogram demonstrated a large muscular ventricular septal defect. Stat transesophageal echocardiography was performed, and due to the large size of the ventricular septal defect, surgical repair was favored over a percutaneous approach. We will discuss some of the post-myocardial infarction complications that may be encountered, as well as indications for surgical versus percutaneous intervention of ventricular septal defect repairs.
