Abstract
Patient is a 17-year-old female who presented to the ED with her boyfriend for dysuria. During the encounter, she admitted to being abused by her boyfriend’s father but did not want to report to authorities over fear of being homeless. She was also going to turn 18 later that month, making her an adult patient. The resident seeing the patient was unsure whether to report to CPS or to honor the patient’s wishes. We will discuss the role of ethics in navigating sensitive issues in the pediatric population.
