Abstract

We present the case of a 78-year-old male who underwent a seemingly uncomplicated EGD and colonoscopy under propofol sedation, but developed persistent hypoxia following conclusion of the case. Chest x-ray obtained in PACU was suggestive of a pneumothorax secondary to complications of the EGD. The patient was then admitted to the intensive care unit for further support. This case reviews hypoxia in PACU and the importance of a broad differential and adequate work up for appropriate management.
