Abstract
This case involves a 77-year-old female with a history of interstitial lung disease who presented with acute-on-chronic hypoxic respiratory failure. The patient was admitted with concern for rapid progression of pulmonary fibrosis secondary to previous COVID-19 infection. Despite receiving optimal medical management, she remained dependent on heated high flow nasal cannula and was deemed a candidate for hospice care. This case will explore the pathophysiology of post-viral pulmonary fibrosis, discuss ideal treatment strategies, and address considerations for patients requiring general anesthesia with compromised lung function.
