Abstract
Our patient is a 68-year-old female with a medical history of congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and sick sinus syndrome with a pacemaker who presented with loose bowel movements, emesis, and significant weight loss. Further work-up revealed a neuroendocrine tumor of the distal ileum with metastasis to the liver. She began receiving monthly octreotide injections and presented for resection of the terminal ileum, right colon, and mesenteric lymph nodes. In this case presentation, we will discuss the mechanism of action of octreotide and its role in both the preoperative and perioperative management of patients with neuroendocrine tumors.
