Abstract
A 66-year-old male presented for right sided video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) and lung wedge resection utilizing a double lumen tube. While confirming placement of the double lumen endotracheal tube (ETT), the flexible bronchoscope became wedged within the ETT and the tip of the device dislodged. This case raises concerns about the reliability of disposable equipment when compared to the construction of standard reusable equipment. As this is intimately related to patient safety, further research is needed to determine whether disposable medical devices lead to equivalent patient outcomes.
