Abstract

A 27-year-old male athlete presented with pulmonary tuberculosis and neutropenia. Due to airborne precautions, two bedside bone marrow biopsies were attempted without anesthesia, but these attempts were unsuccessful. Consequently, a CT-guided bone marrow biopsy was performed using conscious sedation. We will discuss the challenges of providing anesthesia to patients with pulmonary tuberculosis as well as safety measures to prevent intraoperative transmission of the disease.
