Abstract

Obstetric patients have complex physiology that can be challenging to manage without a comprehensive understanding. Our patient is a 35-year-old female with past medical history of gestational diabetes and currently 36 weeks pregnant. She presented to obstetrical triage with worsening scleral icterus for the past week. Lab work revealed acute kidney injury, hyperbilirubinemia, and thrombocytopenia. Patient was taken for an emergent cesarean section and admitted to the surgical intensive care post operatively. We will discuss the pathophysiology, unusual presentations, and critical care management of HELLP syndrome.
