Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Two Layer Vaginal Cuff Closure and Uterosacral Ligament Suspension during Robotic Assisted Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy. OBJECTIVE: Review current literature on vaginal cuff dehiscence and closure techniques Present the basic key steps of a two layer cuff closure with uterosacral ligament suspension from a live robotic assisted total laparoscopic hysterectomy to reinforce proper technique. METHODS: This is a retrospective case study analyzing a surgical video of a robotic assisted total laparoscopic hysterectomy with focus on vaginal cuff closure technique. RESULTS: A successful robotic assisted total laparoscopic hysterectomy with a two layer vaginal cuff closure with uterosacral ligament suspension. CONCLUSIONS: Laparoscopic two layer closure may be superior to one layer closure based on limited evidence. Our further studies will analyze the incidence of cuff dehiscence among different laparoscopic colpotomy closure techniques with hopes to identify one that is superior so that we may suggest a standard technique for cuff closure.
