Abstract

This lecture includes an overview of relevant terminology and concepts, presents a framework for spiritual and religious needs, and reviews recent findings and commentary regarding the provider's role. Several case studies concerning religiosity and spirituality, in both the adult and pediatric context are also shared and discussed.

Objectives

  1. Review basic terminology and foundational concepts relevant to spirituality and religion.
  2. Discuss the care provider's roles and obligations in responding to patient's religious and spiritual needs and concerns.
  3. Review and analyze several case studies that feature religious and spiritually complex ethical dynamics.
