Abstract

An obese 44-year-old patient with history of basal septal wall hypertrophy was scheduled for sleeve gastrectomy. During Trendelenburg positioning, he developed sudden and severe hypotension and hypocapnea which resolved with eventual return to neutral position. With this presentation we will discuss the pathophysiology of basal septal wall hypertrophy and compare/contrast with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and outline expected anesthetic consequences of each.
