Abstract
A 47yo male presented for left parietal meningioma removal. The surgeon’s pre-operative note indicated a risk of persistent bleeding, but when pre-op IV access was taking longer than expected to obtain, the surgeon pushed for the surgery to proceed without waiting for a type and screen, assuring that there would be minimal blood loss. From the start, bleeding was difficult to control but the surgeon insisted on continuing. Blood was ordered to the OR while fluids and vasopressors were started. Shortly after, the patient coded and resuscitation was initiated. This presentation will focus on strategies for dealing with assertive surgeons.
