Abstract
Patient is a 48-year-old male with PMH obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and hypertension who presented for elective cholecystectomy. Shortly after induction, the patient appeared to regurgitate solid food content. Tracheal intubation was performed and a nasogastric suction tube was placed. After performing stabilizing measures, the surgery proceeded and the patient was extubated with no complications seen post-op. Despite being NPO 8 hours before surgery, it was deemed that his reflux may have occurred from receiving semaglutide injections causing delayed emptying of gastric content. We will discuss the mechanism of GLP-1 agonists and intraoperative pulmonary aspiration risk factors
