Abstract
A 60 yo woman with PMH of polycystic kidney and liver disease, HTN, hyperparathyroidism from chronic kidney disease, and paroxysmal SVT presented for a simultaneous liver and kidney transplantation. Veno-venous bypass was planned for the case with cannulas placed in the left femoral vein and the portal vein secondary to hepatomegaly, innumerable cysts, and adhesions. This case will discuss the history of veno-venous bypass, explore its indications and contraindications, and its benefits and complications in the setting of a liver transplantation. We will also discuss the anesthetic management of veno-venous bypass.
