Abstract
We present a case of a 38-year-old female at approximately 30 weeks gestation who presented with bilateral lower extremity weakness and inability to ambulate after chronic nitrous oxide abuse. The patient reported inhaling up to 50 “whippet” canisters a day with each cartridge housing 8 grams of nitrous gas. Cervical myopathy was appreciated on MRI of the cervical spine and a functional B12 deficiency was subsequently diagnosed. This case will discuss the irreversible adverse effects of chronic nitrous oxide abuse.
