Abstract
A 70 year old female with a history of asthma and diabetes was admitted for workup of a near syncopal episode with anginal symptoms. Extensive workup did not reveal any acute process and anginal symptoms subsided. Initial plans for discharge were delayed secondary to severe night time delirium which prompted neurology consultation and work up for stroke. Delirium precautions were initiated and patient improved over time. It is important to understand the causes of delirium and preventative measures to combat delirium in the elderly patient and the perioperative period.
