Abstract
A 22yo male with a history of mandibular fracture repair due to a gunshot wound required surgical intervention for a malpositioned PEG tube. After surgery, the patient became difficult to oxygenate and ventilate, reintubation was unsuccessfully attempted multiple times, and emergency tracheostomy was performed instead of cricothyroidotomy. We will discuss indications for performing emergency tracheostomy or cricothyroidotomy, benefits and risks, and long-term implications for both treatments.
