Abstract
We present a case of a 34-year-old female victim of a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident who sustained multiple injuries including a severe traumatic brain injury with low likelihood of recovery. Over the course of her ICU stay, multiple teams were involved in her care, each delivering different prognoses to the patient’s family. Inadequate communication between multiple teams can lead to significant distress for families and could potentially lead to adverse outcomes for the patient. We will discuss some of the difficulties faced in the multidisciplinary setting and suggest possible strategies to augment these challenges.
