Presentation and Management of Intraoperative Inferior Vena Cava Injury

Abstract

A 64 year old female with a PMH of hyperlipidemia, essential hypertension, and obesity presented from an OSH with a retroperitoneal mass seen on CTA. Patient reported having chronic intermittent abdominal pain that had worsened over the last week Further imaging confirmed mass and the patient was scheduled for resection. Intraoperatively during tumor resection, an IVC injury occurred requiring acute intervention and resuscitation. This case will explore the risk factors, presentation, and management of acute, intraoperative IVC injury.
