Abstract

Disparities in orthopedic care between urban and rural hospitals may contribute to differences in patient outcomes, healthcare costs, and resource utilization. Urban hospitals typically have higher patient volumes and specialized resources, while rural hospitals may face infrastructure and financial limitations. However, the extent to which these factors influence length of stay (LOS), hospital costs, and discharge rates remains unclear. Additionally, the role of trauma status and insurance type in these disparities has not been well characterized. Understanding these variations can inform healthcare policy decisions to improve resource allocation, reimbursement models, and rural healthcare infrastructure.
