Abstract
Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is a common pediatric hip condition treated by pediatric orthopedic surgeons. While there is agreement that treatment should consist of surgical intervention, typically in situ screw fixation, postoperative protocols vary. Specific recommendations regarding weight bearing restrictions are not well established. Postoperative protocols related to weight bearing have a notable impact on pediatric patients and their families, affecting length of hospital stay and return to home/school. This study compares different postoperative weight bearing protocols after in situ screw fixation for treatment of SCFE.
