Abstract

This intermediate lecture will cover the biopsychosocial nature of chronic pain, what psychological factors impact chronic pain development and duration, what are the psychological interventions for chronic pain treatment and ways that you can help patients understand why you recommend incorporating this into their treatment plan. Objectives

  1. Explain why chronic pain is considered a Biopsychosocial disorder.
  2. Identify the role a pain psychologist can play in a multi-disciplinary plan of care for chronic pain.
  3. Develop an evidence based plan of care for complex chronic pain conditions that includes shared decision making with the patient.
